DRW Case 6-1: Help Arrives is a Dead Rising 2 case. The military, led by Sergeant Dwight Boykin arrives and are slaughtered by gas zombies. After this case, it changes the timer that appears when entering and exiting areas from "Time until military arrives" to "Time until fire bomb".
Secure in the Safe House security room, Chuck, Stacey, Sullivan, and Katey all watch the monitors awaiting the military's arrival.
After the military arrives, they raise the bridge back up and spread out in the city. Several army personnel get out of their Humvees, including Sergeant Boykin who gives orders, and the clean up starts. The heavily armed men are more than a match for the mindless zombies, which they genuinely seem to enjoy slaughtering.
But an unexpected strange chemical gas begins flooding up from the city’s sewer vents. The men are surrounded by a thick, green fog. One military officer walks over a vent which is emitting a green gas, and begins coughing. Many of the undead soon begin to shudder and mutate, becoming far more powerful and aggressive. The zombies quickly massacre the soldiers, and only Sergeant Dwight Boykin escapes, taking the Humvee down into the underground. Rebecca is seen fleeing through the gas and entering the underground as well.
Back in the Safe House, the survivors watch in shock. Sullivan assures the group that another rescue attempt will occur in 24 hours. Stacey presses the answer, and Sullivan reveals that, if the second attempt also fails, the military will firebomb the city to ensure the outbreak doesn’t spread, which will destroy the Safe House too. Chuck volunteers to bring back Rebecca and he heads off for the underground.
As Chuck travels throughout Fortune City, he will find multiple Humvees burning or destroyed as a result of the gas zombie massacring the soldiers, in addition to zombified soldiers.

Chuck: Ready to go home, kiddo? Katey: Ready! Chuck: Aren't you supposed to be watching TK? Sullivan: Didn't want to miss the rescue. Don't worry - he's out cold. Stacey: Hey, looks like they're coming over the bridge! Boykin: We're at the first checkpoint. Raise the bridge. Boykin: Let's go, let's go! Ready to kick some ass, ladies? You know the drill! First we mop up, then we grab the survivors. Start with the north end, move down! Group: Sir, yes sir! Boykin: Whoa, whoa, hold your fire! First kill belongs to Daddy, sweethearts! Solider: Nice shot, sir. Boykin: Have at it, boys! Solider: Hey, look at this waste of ammo! Solider: What the hell? Solider: Come on, drop you son of a bitch! Come on! Solider: My face! Oh god, it burns, it burns! Help me, it burns! Soldier: Hold still man, I'll shoot it off! Soldier: Can't see shit in this fog, man. Soldier: Medic! I need a medic here! Soldier: They're all around us! I think they're all around us! Soldier: Shin! Soldier: Sarge! Sarge! You gotta get us outta here! Chuck: What the hell just happened? Stacey: Zombies can't take out a military column. They can't - can they? Chuck: Regular zombies can't. But those...what happened to them? Stacey: Look! It's Rebecca! What is she thinking?!? Chuck: I've got to go get her... Katey: No, Daddy! Didn't you see?! Stacey: That was the military rescue? How the hell do we get out of here now? Chuck: We're going to have to go out there and find a way out ourselves. Sullivan: Now everybody wait a minute. There's another part to standard operating procedure. My understanding is if there's a problem with the rescue operation, there'll be another attempt in hours - if it looks like there's any survivors. Stacey: What do you mean, your understanding?! You knew plenty about standard operating procedure before! Sullivan: Hey hold on, missy! Wasn't supposed to happen like this. I'm the only reserve man who made it here alive, and I'm doing my damnedest. Stacey: And what if that rescue fails? Huh? Everything else has gone wrong so far. Sullivan: Firebombing. It's the only way to get rid of 'em. For good. Stacey: Firebombing? Chuck: I have to go get Rebecca. Stacey: Chuck - be careful. If those things can take out the military... |
Trivia[]
- "Firebomb" is a term used for napalm bombing, which was forbidden by the Geneva Convention following the Vietnam War due to the ecological and collateral destruction it wrought. Despite this, it is still sometimes used in extreme circumstances. This is likely the reason for its use by the military on Fortune City, given the potential for a massive spread of the infection.
- The firebombing takes place in Ending B.
- In missions.txt and cinematics.big the slaughter video is called 050a_bloodbath.
